Lancia Lambda TORPEDO LUNGO IX serie ex MAHARAJA di KUALA LUMPUR
At the Paris Motor Show in 1922, Lancia presented the Lambda, which was immediately hailed by the press as Vincenzo Lancia's project destined to mark an era.
The chassis was made of pressed sheet metal with a whole series of gaps created to make the car lighter. Lancia regarded the Lambda as a touring car, but the performance was so high that the Lambda was continuously used in races and competitions with great success for many years. In 1928 the Lancia Lambda driven by Strazza/Varallo came third in the overall classification of the Mille Miglia.
At this point we enter the personal life of the Lancia Lambda 'TORPEDO LUNGO' IX series 1931:
The car was delivered directly and personally by the great VINCENZO LANCIA to the MAHARAJA in KUALA LUMPUR in 1931.
Later an American officer bought it from one of his heirs, and took it to the USA.
He gave it to Mr. WILLIAM HARRAH of the NATIONAL AUTOMOBILEMUSEUM RENO NEVADA U.S.A. THE HARRAH COLLECTION, where it remained for years until the death of the founder, who bequeathed it to its curator.
The latter later passed it on to GUIDO LAMPERTI, a great collector and conservator of the Lancia Historical Register in 1982.
The car was well preserved, but deserved a proper restoration, which was carried out in CARATE BRIANZA by the SANVITO E COLOMBO coachbuilder (for the two-tone Lancia ivory paintwork and black mudguards) and masterfully completed at the end of the 1980s by the NOVAIRA company of CARIGNANO (To). All under the consultancy of historian Dr. VENIERO MOLARI:
Carefully preserved thereafter, it has participated with GUIDO LAMPERTI in the most important national and international events, including Villa d'Este...
I will be attending the annual Lancia Lambda Italian Registry meeting in Genoa and Portofino in June
